Thanksgiving in NYC

Thanksgiving in NYC

Thanksgiving in New York City is a magical time of year.  From joining the crowds to watch the parade to hitting up a holiday market to purchase artisanal gifts, there are plenty ways to take advantage of your holiday trip this season. Whether you’re in the area for business or pleasure, here’s how you can make the best of spending Thanksgiving in NYC.

Watch the parade

For those who are crowd-averse, this may not be the best option. However, if you’ve always dreamed of watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person, now is your chance. Review the parade map and determine the most optimal viewing point for your comfort level. If you have portable lawn chairs handy, bring them. Make sure to layer up with comfortable, warm clothing and head out earlier in the morning.

Plenty of nonprofit organizations are gearing up for the winter season by setting up clothing drives, soup kitchens and more. Feeding NYC is looking for volunteers the days leading up to Turkey Day to help prepare, package and deliver holiday meals to more than 35,000 families in need. If you’re looking for something else, visit New York Cares and see which organizations need help this holiday season.

Run a 5K

What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than by burning a few calories before you ingest thousands more at the feast? Join hundreds of locals on Thanksgiving Day for the annual New York City Turkey Trot, starting at 9am in Prospect Park. It’s not unusual to see participants running in turkey or pilgrim costumes, so wear your Thanksgiving-themed gear if you have any.

Visit a holiday market

There are plenty of indoor and outdoor holiday markets open for the season in and around New York City. While you’re in town, why not get a head start on your holiday shopping list? From local handcrafted goods to regionally sourced treats, there’s plenty to buy for your loved ones—and perhaps yourself too!

Worst case scenario, order some Thanksgiving food items from City Acres Market while you’re staying at Q&A Residential Hotel and cook your holiday meal in one of our full sized, fully equipped kitchens. Why stay cramped in an apartment or typical Manhattan hotel when you can spread out in our expansive suites? Happy holidays!
