Discovering NYC Series: Shopping in Lower Manhattan
While New York City is full of clothing retailers scattered across Manhattan, most believe Fifth Avenue is where to find the best shopping on the island. We’d like to challenge this notion. Fifth Ave is wonderful for those whose disposable income is without limits, but for the everyday shopper, Downtown NYC is the place to go. Here are our four top shopping destinations in the neighborhood:
Who needs the latest Max Mara blazer when you can shop last season’s classics at Century 21? Outfitted for those with champagne taste, Century 21 is the best way to purchase designer clothing at a reasonable cost.
Westfield World Trade Center
We’re still not sure if a mall surrounded by a major transportation hub is a good or bad thing, but hey, it’s certainly convenient! Whether you’re on your way home from work or looking for something to do over the weekend, Westfield World Trade Center’s impressive vendor list is vast and ever-growing. If you’ve worked up an appetite, stop by Eataly’s newest NYC location in Downtown Manhattan.
Brookfield Place is definitely a high-end shopping experience. From Burberry to Vince, Theory to Gucci, it’s one of New York City’s newest and most elegant luxury malls. Our favorite Brookfield Place attraction is their sophisticated food court. Say goodbye to dodgy Chinese food vendors and say hello to Chop’t.
As the South Street Seaport rebuilds itself, more local clothing vendors are moving in and creating a unique shopping destination. Stop by Rialto Jean Project, specializing in hand-painted vintage jeans, or Christian Benner, a local fashion designer who’s worked with top celebrities like Lady Gaga. Another exciting addition to look forward to: 10 Corso Como, a Milan-based retailer that combines fashion, art, music and lifestyle, will open its first and only U.S. location this year!
Whether you’re a cost-conscious shopper or one to look for the latest luxury designer bag, Lower Manhattan offers an unparalleled shopping experience perfect for anyone. With New York Fashion Week well on its way, grab your wallet and get out there and shop! For more travel tips and local happenings, visit Q&A Residential Hotel’s official blog.
